Acer Iconia Tab 10.1-Inch Tablet Review
This Acer Iconia Tab 10.1-Inch tablet review will look at Acer’s foray into the 10 inch tablet market. With many PC manufacturers getting involved with the tablet market, and each utilizing similar technology and components, each system is quite similar, and it is likely to come down to extra features, screen display and budget as to which device to go for.
Acer Iconia Tab W500-BZ467 Solid Body
To begin with, the Acer Iconia looks quite similar to the Apple iPad, although it is thicker and heavier. It has a brushed aluminium back which gives it a nice, solid feel and as it is thicker than the iPad, it actually feels better in the hands. There is something to hold onto and it doesn’t feel as fragile. Onto the front, and the aluminium wraps slightly round to the front where it meets the touchscreen and blends in nicely with the black surrounds. It is one of the nicest looking tablets.

Fast CPU and Memory
The Acer Iconia Tab W500-BZ467 has onboard, the same 1ghz NVIDIA dual core processor as the other tablets in its range. 1gb of memory is on board, and there’s a choice of three flash drive sizes, 16gb, 32gb and 64gb. Plenty of space for anyone, but one of the advantages this device has over the iPad is that it can accept micro SD cards, further expanding memory capabilities.
This expansion also means that transferring data over to it is so much easier than the iPad, where everything must go through iTunes. There is also a full USB port for plugging in flash drives, or even a full keyboard. Should you wish, you could also plug in a 3G dongle for internet anywhere. The micro USB next to it is for connecting and synching with a computer if you wish.
There is one other important connection to note, and that is the micro HDMI port, which allows you to connect the tablet to your HD tv. You do have to purchase a separate micro HDMI to full HDMI cable though, but these are very cheap. Quite why Acer didn’t put a full HDMI port in is strange as there seems to be plenty of space for one. But once hooked up to your tv, you can enjoy watching movies in full HD.
Display - Acer Iconia Tab 10.1-Inch Tablet Review
The display is 10.1″ across diagonals and is one of the best for your money. The colors and crispness of it, shows off perfectly the capabilities of the pre-installed Android 3.1 Honeycomb operating system (which is upgradable).
All Acer Iconia’s are of course fitted with wi-fi capability, enabling you to connect to any wi-fi hotspot and accessing the net. Bluetooth is also included, and means you can connect a variety of equipment to it, such as a Bluetooth keyboard which can be very useful for word processing etc.
Acer Iconia Tab Cameras
It has two cameras on board, a front facing 2 mega pixel camera for when you use video conferencing software such as Skype, and a rear facing 5 mega pixel camera as well. This camera also acts as a video camera too and the quality is satisfactory. It won’t replace your proper camera, but it’s certainly good enough if you do not have a camera available to you.
One of the best aspects of the Acer Iconia is the sound output. It is one of the best for a tablet, and this is down to the Dolby Mobile sound system. It produces a more full bodied sound experience than other tablets, save perhaps the more expensive Samsung Galaxy, but certainly compared to the Thrive and Xoom, it’s sound is much better.
Based on Amazon Acer Iconia 10.1-Inch Tablet reviews, most people are very happy with the device. Over 370 people out of 425 give it four stars and above, showing it is a good and useful device. The majority of users like the sound output and crisp, colorful display the most. Many compared it to the iPad, and stating that the extra connectivity and lower price was the main reason they opted for it. The main criticisms seem to be the weak wi-fi connectivity, which personally I never found, perhaps these were from earlier model releases.
This Acer Iconia Tab 10.1-Inch Tablet review has shown that Acer has produced a great priced tablet that will give the iPad a strong run for its money. With its extra connectivity features and more flexible operating system, the Iconia Tab is very much a tablet to be reckoned with.
