Behind the Scenes: Hope & The Hellebore
Behind the Scenes:
Hope & The Hellebore
For our final photoshoot of 2020, we offered brides a hopeful look ahead. A studio filled with tiny sets transported the first arrivals of our Spring 2021 Gown Collection into lush fantasy worlds, from gardens in full bloom to sculptural desert scenes. The inspiration for these magical escapes? A single flower—the hellebore—which blooms during the coldest days of winter. We hope that this resilient bloom and the promise of beautiful moments to come will inspire our brides as they hope, dream, and plan for all their future celebrations. Join our team for a closer look.

What was the inspiration for this shoot?

Can you tell us a bit about the sets?

Landis: “Our set designer really created a Garden of Eden in Brooklyn. Multiple forests, gardens, and even a Sedona-style canyon, which we were all kind of stunned by.”
Julia: “The desert set was my favorite because I know all the work and effort that went into creating it. The prop stylist, Stewart, and his team did an amazing job.”
Kirby: “All of the sets were so beautiful, but I think my favorite was the desert. Seeing it come to life… I am truly amazed by the set designers!”
Sarah: “The team built little boxes with the sets inside, which all varied so much from each other. We had four locations in the same studio—it felt like we were traveling! I loved the chandelier set (or as I call it, the disco ball!).”

What was your favorite moment?

What was your favorite moment?
Landis: “When the crew threw a birthday surprise for one of the grips.”
Julia: “Seeing the sets come to life on camera. Between Stewart’s sets and photographer Alvin Kean Wong’s magical lens, it was even better than I had expected.”
Kirby: “Probably the feather shot! We were all so excited to see that look come to life.”
Sarah: “For me, it’s always about catching the little moments that no one else might notice. I’m on set capturing all of the behind-the-scenes and in-betweens.”

Three phrases to describe the vibe on set...

Landis:
“Dreamy. Times three.”
Julia:
“Nerve-wracking (it was election week!), fun, magical.”
Kirby:
“Anxious, magical, inspiring.”
Sarah:
“Anxious, nervous, excited. I think the only thing we could focus on was the election on Day 1 of the shoot (November 4).”
